In the lead up to the World Cross Country Championships this weekend at Holyrood Park a SportCentral team of Under 15 and Under 17 runners competed for Central Scotland over 4k on the world course. Racing against four other regions in the girls race, Sarah Inglis (Lothian RC) had a very strong finish coming in first place, Mhairi Inglis (Lothian RC) followed in fourth with Catriona Buchanan (Central AC) making it third counter in fifth place. U15 athletes Lorna Cameron, Rachel Adamson and Rosie Hastings (Central AC) stayed together throughout most of the race with Lorna finishing as fourth counter for the team to bring home silver for Central Scotland, presented to them by Liz McColgan on the World Cross Country Podium. Central Athletic Club athlete Alexander Hendy, who has been improving his form week on week, brought home a bronze medal closely followed in fourth by Sean Reilly (Central AC). Scott Green (Central AC) and Robert Inglis (Lothian RC) also ran well to be the third and fourth counters for the team. Tom Watson and Ross Milne (Central AC) also ran well against their age group contenders. With some outstanding performance the boys team took Gold once again on the World Podium, presented by Sebastian Coe. Liz Francis from SportCentral said “A fantastic day was had by all, it was a great venue and such an experience for these developing athletes”. Thanks goes to Derek Easton volunteer Team Manger and coach for Central AC who co-ordinated the team and gave the athletes sound advice and expertise in the run up to the event. Alex Hendry
