Fundamental Skills Workshop Success

World Class High Jump Coach Fuzz Ahmed takes Scotland ’s Coaches by storm…

Following consultation with the Forth Valley Athletics partnership and local coaches, SportCentral invited leading High Jump coach Fayyaz Ahmed, better known as Fuzz, to deliver two unique workshops on Fundamental Movement Skills at Grangemouth Stadium on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th November.

Fifty two coaches from eight different sports benefited from a motivational delivery by Fuzz Ahmed which resulted in very positive feedback from all present. The workshops also attracted Frank Nuttall from as far as Middlesbrough Football Club. The event was first class and was presented in a very positive manner.

Fuzz, who took Tom Parsons to the Olympic High Jump Final and worked as part of a team to take Germaine Mason to an Olympic silver medal in Beijing 2008, said "I had an excellent thought provoking two days with a fraternity of coaches, whose passion to learn and improve was inspirational to me. We covered a broad area of topics, and the enthusiasm of the coaches that attended fills me with confidence for the future of sport in Scotland .  I was honoured to be asked, and I thank Sports Central for the opportunity to share some of my ideas and experiences with the next generation of committed coaches."

Organiser Liz Francis, Regional Athletics Development Manager from SportCentral said “As a result of these workshops an opportunity has arisen for our developing coaches to go down to Birmingham to attend a World Class day with Fuzz and Rudy Farquharson on Preparation for Elite Sport.  Athlete Jayne Nisbet from Edinburgh Athletic Club, who kindly demonstrated the plyometric drills, has now been invited to work with Fuzz on a more regular basis as he identified her huge potential as a High Jumper. This is great news and we hope to have more development opportunities like this for coaches in Scotland in the future. Thanks goes to all the athletes involved in the demonstrations and to the coaches for supporting the event with such interest.”
