REGIONAL SQAUDS UPDATE

Forth Valley athletes Gary Plain and Ashley Madden (Falkirk Victoria Harriers) attended their last Regional Squad session prior to the England Athletics Open Indoor Championships (U20/U17/U15) this weekend.  As Ashley is in her first year as an U20 she aims to get through the heats and if she reaches the semi finals of the 400m she will be very pleased with her performance.  The young athletes are lucky enough to gain support from the Forth Valley Athletics Partnership, their Club and Scottish Athletics to make the trip possible, allowing them to compete in the Championships.

Mhairi and Sarah Inglis (Lothian Running Club) also make their final preparations for the National Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Sarah who has trained hard throughout the season is hoping for a top three finish.

Regional Squad coaches Bryan Roy (High Jump) and John Dawson (Sprints) have dedicated their time to develop themselves further as coaches by signing up to the SportCentral Coach-Mentoring Programme.  Delivered by Master Coach Sandy Robertson, the programme is now well underway.

John Dawson said “it has been a big success, in terms of Hurdles Sandy has given me a huge insight into coaching a technical event such as this. He has also helped me develop different coaching techniques and understand how many elements are involved in Hurdles”.
