TEAM FORTH VALLEY MAKE PROMOTION INTO THE PREMIER LEAGUE

On Sunday 7th Sept Team Forth Valley a team made up of athletes from 4 clubs, Falkirk Victoria Harriers, Central AC, Livingston ACs and Lothian Running Club, Won the National Junior Athletics League Northern Promotion match, one of the biggest match that any athletics team from the area had ever encountered.

With 482pts, they beat Team Glasgow into second place. This now means that they will compete against teams like Sale Harriers, Liverpool and Northern Champions Edinburgh AC.

Many had either PBs or Seasons Bests during the match and we had 3 stadium records set, out of the 5 set on the day. With the team bond getting stronger as the match went on one or two competed in events outside their usual sphere, with fantastic results.

The team position in the match kept on changing from 1st to 4th throughout the day, but with a fantastic purple patch in the middle, which included winning all of the 4 800m races. The team moved in 1st place, which was never relinquished for the rest of the day. The relays at the end were to show the fantastic team spirit that had been created over the season.

The league is for Athletes in the U20 age group, who are looking for a higher class of competition. The result for this team is quite extraordinary for 2 reasons, a lot of the Athletes are still U17 and the team has only competed in this league for 3 years.

Unfortunately we had 5 Athletes who will be missing out next year, due to moving up. The team thought it would be good for them to collect the trophy at the end.

After winning and taking the photos they had a winners lap, perfect time for it to start raining heavy. But for some reason no-one seemed to care.

During the NJAL season the team traveled to Carlisle (3) and an overnight stay in Middlesbrough. On each occasion the young athletes competed beyond everyone’s expectations.

Big thanks has to go out to SportsCentral and the Clubs for helping out financially, Mackies Coaches for supplying the buses, and to all the officials, who were parents that completed SAL Official courses.

We are now looking for a local company to sponsor the team for the forth coming year that will help the team move to the next level.
