Vision: A regional network of strong clubs integrated within the principles of LTPD

Current snapshot: In the Forth Valley there are 5 clubs affiliated to Scottish Athletics and provide regular training and competition opportunities for athletes of all ages in a range of events and 2 clubs have development action plans.

Falkirk Victoria Harriers

Since the opening of the all-weather track at Grangemouth, and the founding of ladies section in the 1960's, FVH has continued to grow both in numbers and success. Today the club offers competition for athletes all year round, with teams in all the main track & field leagues during the summer, while focussing in winter on all the major Cross Country events, as well as the Scottish Athletics Indoor Leagues at the Kelvin Hall for age groups up to Under 20.

The club is extremely fortunate to have one of the best facilities in the country  'Grangemouth Stadium' at which to train, with the recent addition (by Falkirk Council) of the Indoor Centre of Excellence being extremely beneficial. Proof of this is evident in that the club currently boasts Scottish Champions in all age groups in a variety of events. Training sessions are held at Grangemouth Stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, though individual coaches and their athletes hold extra sessions at other times. Club nights are regularly attended by 50 or 60 athletes under the watchful eye of Senior Coach, Willie Sharp and club coaches all of which are qualified and work on a voluntary basis.

Central Athletics Club

Central Athletics Club was established in 1974 and now has a proud history of team and individual success including a number of Scottish champions, record holders and Internationalists who have developed from the grass roots of the club. With more than 300 members they are one of the largest athletics clubs in Central Scotland and the premier club in the Stirling and Clackmannanshire areas. The aims of the club are to provide coaching support and competition for their members. They are always pleased to welcome new members and their philosophy is to encourage athletes of all ages and abilities to achieve their goals. They provide coaching and competition throughout the year across a variety of events including Track & Field, Indoor League, Cross Country, Road Running and Hill Running.

In the winter months, from October until about March, Tuesday night training sessions are based at Stirling High school and Thursday night sessions start off from the top car park at Stirling University.

When do they train?

The main club training nights are every Tuesday and Thursday rain, hail or shine, from 7 to 8.30pm with venues varying depending on the season. Other informal training sessions are arranged from time to time by the coaches.

Stirling University Athletics Club

Athletics is for everyone, for those who enjoy running and being fit, for those who thrive on competition and for the people who do it for the good of their soul! As a club they have a range of athletes of varying abilities but like to encourage and include everyone. Their strength lies in numbers!

SUAC run a full cross-country and track and field season and have currently been Scottish champions two years running at the SUS outdoor track and field championships. In addition to this the men currently hold third position in SUS cross country while the women are fourth in this event but they in turn are defending a bronze medal position in the SUS road relay championships!!

It's not all about serious competition with the club however; they also make sure that they have a good time as well. In the past year as a team they've been to bowling nights, ceilidh dances, the BUSA XC after party and a whole lot of other nights out!

The club were also involved in the Scottish Universities Athletics training weekend and travelled to the Easter Athletics Festival on the Isle of Man. Both events were great fun for everyone who participated! A friendly track and field match with St. Andrews also proved to be a resounding success and with all these things and more being planned again for the up and coming year, there is certainly plenty to be looking forward to.
