About Disability Sport

Lynne Glen, a familiar figure in Sports Development and disability circles throughout Forth Valley, was previously employed in Sports Development with Clackmannanshire Council. As well as being involved in disability sport in her professional role Lynne has been a volunteer in disability sport for the past three years. Lynne will work with all agencies in this exciting time to provide opportunities for adults and children in the Forth Valley Area to participate in sport and reach their potential.

There have been significant developments in the delivery of Disability Sport in the last year in the SportCentral area. The appointment of the disability manager has seen a shift in the emphasis on the development of athletes as well as an increase of participation in disability sport.

Since the appointment of the manager a more focussed approach has been taken to develop the infrastructure of priority sports.

There is an excellent opportunity for juniors and seniors alike to progress in their chosen sport through the integration of strategies and action plans of the disability manager and the sport specific managers.

The last year has seen more opportunities being offered to children with physical, sensory and learning difficulties in the Central area and the creation of development squads in athletics and swimming has signified the development of the player pathway for athletes with disabilities.

Through the development of clubs, further training and competition opportunities will be available to athletes to improve their performance and enable them to progress to and beyond Scottish Disability Sport National Squads.
