SportCentral is pleased to announce the publication of a gymnastics coach resource manual aimed at helping new and existing coaches to plan, co-ordinate and deliver more effective gymnastics sessions for their gymnasts. This new resource contains good practise reference material covering warm ups, physical preparation, planning, club organisation, recreational and club programme delivery; and also includes practical examples and customisable templates to aid coaches before, during, after sessions.
The manual has been provided free to local Central coaches on the mentoring programme, local Sports Development, and clubs. Hopefully coaches will find this to be a useful practical tool that they can share, use and re-use to enhance their gymnast's development. Included is a CD copy of the contents to allow reproduction and adaption of the resource material and templates.

British Gymnastics has issued a safety and guidance notice on the use of garden trampolines. You can view the 2 page notice by clicking here
The notice gives practical advice on protecting trampoline users’ safety and most notable safety guidelines are:
- Never allow more than one person on a trampoline at a time (three quarters of all injuries occur from ignoring this)
- Locate the trampoline safely, i.e. not near fencing, trees, play equipment, on a slope, etc.
- Clearly set rules for the children/user on safe trampoline use
- Avoid skills that involve being upside down
- Ensure the user stops bouncing before jumping off the trampoline
- Always ensure an adequate number and age of spotters are present around the edges of the trampoline
- Most importantly, have your child trained properly!
British Gymnastics have a range of trampoline education courses for coaches and teachers. If you would like to arrange a course or get more information on any teacher or coach education courses please call Andrew Webb, Regional Gymnastics Development Manager on 01324 590 720. |
